The Youth Advocacy & Policy Publication (YAPP) is a youth-led publication network dedicated to promoting youth advocacy, voice, and opinions. This platform provides young people ages 13-18 with a place to share their ideas and policy recommendations, making them accessible to the public. Founded to promote youth voice and address youth exclusion, YAPP is led by youth, for youth, and open to young people worldwide.
Young people are often excluded from policy discussions and dismissed because of their age, so this platform provides young people with the opportunity to engage an audience with their policy proposals. YAPP offers free publication for submissions that meet YAPP’s standards and provides free online workshops on advocacy, engagement, and policy writing. The platform also supports young people with policymaker outreach, hosts youth-led interviews, and recognizes outstanding submissions through biannual online showcases.
Claire Kiel is a 16-year-old youth advocate focused on youth inclusion and quality education. She has spoken on age discrimination and the underestimation of young people, emphasizing how youth can make an impact and contribute to policy.
Her advocacy work is driven by personal experience facing inequities and discrimination in the education system, and a commitment to promoting youth voice. Claire currently serves as a team member with the International Organization of Youth and the Global Teen Leadership Summit. She founded YAPP to extend advocacy to young people globally.
"Young people should receive the same respect and inclusion that adults are automatically given; after all, youth are the future and have relevant contributions to society. Policy decisions that are about us should include us, and YAPP gives youth worldwide the opportunity to be heard and make an impact."
